How skin changes with age

Topical creams and lotions containing collagen are not all that great when it comes to improving the condition of your skin. Basically, the collagen does not absorb well or deep enough into the under-layers of the skin to reap any actual benefit. If you want to put the bounce back in your skin, the only solution is to get your internal collagen levels up and running again. Have you noticed your face is showing some redness? Perhaps you're slapping on extra moisturizer because recently your skin has become dry and itchy. Maybe you've had a few acne breakouts or blemishes. Do you wake up in the morning, thinking you've had a good night of sleep, only to be surprised by the bags under your eyes?

Combining equal parts of lemon juice, honey and oatmeal makes a wonderful daily cleansing scrub. Rich in anti-oxidants, it also exfoliates and moisturizes. If you find the consistency is too thick, simply add some water until it is reduced to a thin paste. This formula keeps well in the refrigerator, so you can have a supply on hand to use every day. Using this essential oil in soaps or body washes is a great way to control acne outbreaks. It's effective and gentle in treating existing blemishes, but also helps remove surface and pore bacteria which leads to further outbreaks. Therefore, it's often used as a preventative measure for those with acne prone skin.

Blemish free with no dry patches, itchiness or redness. You don't break out from certain foods, lotions or make up. Your pores are relatively small, and you rarely need any concealer. If you have normal skin, you still need to wash and moisturize to keep the balance, but you don't have to read the labels to find something that will work well. Oily skin gets a penetrating clean from mud masks and body cleansers to exfoliate dead skin cells and remove debris, dirt and oil which clogs pores and aggravates skin. These can be used on the face, hands and body to mineralize the skin and leave it fresh and glowing without dehydrating. The stimulating qualities that come from seawater aid in restoring natural moisture levels so the body is less likely to overproduce oils.

Sweet potatoes and yams are a great way to boost metabolism, improve your digestive system and strengthen cell structure. Strong cells that frequently regenerate are a must for healthy skin to keep pores minimized and leave you fresh and glowing. Plus, yams are quite tasty, naturally sweet and can be used as a side dish or part of a salad or casserole. Currently, the molecules in these products are simply too large for our skin to absorb. Therefore, the collagen remains on the surface of the face and body without penetrating the layers of our skin. It's the surface under our skin that really needs the collagen to keep our faces young looking, so essentially, these creams and lotions do nothing.

While it stands to reason that the solution for oily skin would be to use products that will dry the skin, thereby reducing the oils, this action often makes it worse. Since the sebaceous gland regulates the oil and moisture for skin, using products that dry out the skin can trigger the gland into producing yet even more oil. There are two proteins found naturally in your skin that play a large role in how your skin changes with age. These proteins, known as collagen and elastin, are part of the very structure of your skin and are in the dermis layer.
